Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the largest sestiere in Venice, after Castello. It lies north of the Grand Canal and is bordered by the sestieri of San Marco, Santa Croce and Castello. It is the most populous sestiere in Venice, with about 15,000 inhabitants. It is easily reached on foot from the train station in a few minutes.
In the photo you see the “Ponte delle Guglie,” a central point of Cannaregio. The canal below is called “Canale di Cannaregio” (Cannaregio channel) and is one of the most important waterways in the city.
Continuing on the right side of the canal you immediately come to the entrance of the “Jewish Ghetto of Venice” which was the first Jewish ghetto in the world. You also come to one of the most “secret” places in Venice: the Baia del Re (King’s Bay), which you cannot find because it is not on the maps by this name. Like the binary Binario 9 ¾ in Harry Potter’s novels it must be searched for and can be found only by those who deserve it.

Along the left bank, on the other hand, you will reach the campus of the Faculty of Economics, but before that you will also find one of the most famous seafood restaurants in Venice (Marisa) and there you can rest at Savrognan Park on hot days.
